Process & craft

From the yard to your counter

One person from the first visit to the last seam: the same hands that measure your cabinets cut your stone.

  1. 01 // Step

    Pick your slab

Choose your stone at the slab yard. Customers say Betto helped them pick the best slab, picked it up from the yard and took it to his shop himself, and The Yard puts him on its short list of fabricators.

    Carolyn Kroot · Denise Feighery · R L, Google

  2. 02 // Step

    Template & measure

He comes out to measure, and checks the cabinets are set properly before anything is cut. On outdoor islands he cuts appliance holes to the real grill and burner, not the paper spec.

Denise Feighery, Google · Angelo L., Yelp

  3. 03 // Step

    Cut, edge & polish

In his Phoenix shop the slab is cut to the template, sinks and cooktops are cored out, edges are profiled and polished. Book-matched slabs are lined up so the veins meet.

    Patty N. · Mary Anne B., Yelp

  4. 04 // Step

    Set & seam on site

Install day: tops set, seams joined so you have to look for them, the workspace left clean. More than one customer says the job finished before the estimate.

Eased edge

A square edge with the corners just softened. Clean and modern, and the one that shows off the slab’s thickness.

Stone rack

Five kinds of stone he cuts. Tap one to pull it off the rack.

Quartzite

Natural stone with long, soft veins. The most-mentioned stone in his reviews: kitchen islands, book-matched runs, a dry bar.

On record: Mary Anne B. · Debra H. · Patty N. · R L

Slab thicknesses: 2 cm · 3 cm

Book-match

Two slabs, one set of veins

Consecutive slabs from the same block are opened like a book, so the veins mirror across the seam. Drag to open it.

“The slabs were book matched and he matched the ends perfect.”— Patty N., Yelp
